Role in For Steam and Country

In For Steam and Country, when Zaira von Monocle and James Gentry rode through the town at night, the Plainsroad Inn was the sole source of illumination in the otherwise darkened settlement. As the text records: "The only light came from the Plainsroad Inn, which would still be serving some of its patrons." The pair did not stop at the inn during this passage, and it served primarily as a landmark and indicator of the late hour of their journey.
