Events of The Iron Wedding

The Airship Crash
Prior to the events of The Iron Wedding, The Liliana crashed under circumstances not fully detailed on this page. Among the casualties of the crash were the airship plans that Zaira von Monocle had recovered from Plainsroad Village. As Zaira later noted, "They were in the airship when we crashed, and no one had been able to find them afterward." The loss of these plans had lasting consequences, as no recovery effort succeeded in locating them.
The Bandit Attack
On the road to the Wyranth capital, the party travelling with Zaira was set upon by bandits. During the attack, Ando died protecting Zaira. Upon the group's arrival at the capital, Melker recounted the story of the bandit attack to Ivan, the Iron Emperor, who referred to the incident as trouble along the way.
The Funeral
A funeral took place in the period leading into the novel's events. A procession was held, and the palace was left in a glum mood beforehand. The ceasefire between Wyranth and Rislandia held through the duration of the funeral.
The Ceasefire
A ceasefire between Wyranth and Rislandia was in effect during the events of The Iron Wedding, having held through the funeral. The Rislandian side hoped to regain their land as a result of the ceasefire. Zaira hoped that her influence at the Wyranth court would allow the ceasefire to continue.
The Battle Test
While Zaira slept in the Wyranth capital, Wyranth forces conducted an automaton attack on Rislandian forces at Loveridge. The Rislandians were caught completely unprepared. A Wyranth Lieutenant reported the outcome to Ivan: "The automatons did their job. The Rislandians were caught completely unprepared. The battle test was a success." The battle test demonstrated the military effectiveness of automatons in open combat against Rislandian troops.
Phase Two
Following the successful battle test, Ivan ordered the next stage of his military campaign to proceed, declaring, "We'll proceed with phase two." Phase Two was described by Ivan as securing the entirety of Wyranth's new holdings and involved the deployment of additional automatons. Princess Kristina travelled to the Wyranth War Factory to prepare automatons for this phase of the campaign.
