Princess Kristina

Princess Kristina

Titles: Princess of Wyranth, Director of Automaton Production

Princess Kristina was the half-sister of Ivan, the Iron Emperor and one of the most senior figures in the Wyranth Empire's military-industrial apparatus. As Director of Automaton Production, she oversaw the manufacture, programming, and deployment readiness of the empire's mechanical soldiers, powered by life crystals. She and Ivan shared the same brilliant, icy blue eyes but were born of different mothers.

Description

Kristina was described as a dark-haired girl with a mischievous look on her face. She was detail-oriented and well-organized—qualities that made her indispensable to the empire's automaton program. She dressed modestly, wearing a dark dress that reached her ankles with her arms fully covered, clothing crafted by Ivan's personal seamstress, who had been making her garments since birth. Despite her conservative attire, she was noted to have a notable figure. Her blue eyes were described as icy cold and penetrating, identical in quality to Ivan's.

In personality, Kristina was efficient, practical, and loyal to her brother, though she was not without a sharp wit and a tendency toward teasing and cryptic remarks. She appeared skeptical of Ivan's theories regarding crystal magic and was observed to be amused rather than convinced when the subject arose. She lacked Ivan's eccentricity but matched his competence. She also demonstrated genuine concern for Ivan's safety and wellbeing, calling him infuriating even as she acted to protect him.

Role in the Wyranth Empire

As Director of Automaton Production, Kristina was responsible for one of the empire's most critical military assets. The automatons—tireless, fearless mechanical soldiers—were manufactured and programmed under her supervision at the factory on Isle du Mystere. She did not reside permanently in the Wyranth Palace, spending the majority of her time at the factory. In the event that Ivan failed to return from a mission, Kristina stood to be crowned Empress of the Wyranth.

Role in The Iron Wedding

In The Iron Wedding, Kristina appeared at several key moments surrounding the events of the imperial wedding.

She entered Ivan's study uninvited during a private conversation between Ivan and Zaira von Monocle, appearing amused and mocking toward Ivan's attempts at explanation. During this encounter she raised the subject of Ivan's belief that magical crystals held the world together, asking Zaira, "Has he talked about the magical crystals he believes hold the world together yet?" She teased Ivan about being besotted with Zaira before departing, noting she needed to return to the factory: "Fine, I'll leave you two be. I have to get back to the factory and make sure the automatons are all ready for phase two anyway." Her deliberate emphasis on "phase two" was noted to infuriate Ivan.

The morning after the Wyranth Capital Riot, Kristina ate breakfast with Zaira. She subsequently led Zaira to Ivan's laboratory at Devil's Mountain, where she seemed to enjoy offering cryptic remarks. Upon arriving at the laboratory, she asked Ivan, "Is today the day?" She was present during the crystal machine experiment, during which she casually brushed her fingers against the machine. She appeared skeptical of Ivan's crystal theories throughout. After the experiment, she departed to return to the factory to prepare the automatons for phase two.

Kristina also reported to Ivan that the latest batch of automatons was ahead of schedule and ready for military testing.

Prior to the wedding ceremony itself, Kristina waited for Zaira, leaning against a pillar. She warned Zaira that Ivan adored her and threatened to slit Zaira's throat if Zaira hurt him, describing a rivalry with Ivan while affirming that he was still her blood. She then brushed past James Gentry with enough force to make him stumble, and walked away with confidence to join a group of Wyranth down the path.

Zaira von Monocle: Kristina interacted with Zaira on multiple occasions—at Ivan's study, over breakfast, on the journey to Devil's Mountain, and immediately before the ceremony during the events of The Iron Wedding. Her manner toward Zaira combined cryptic amusement with a direct and serious warning of the consequences of harming Ivan. Zaira had first met Kristina when she came to Wyranth to discuss the wedding.

In A History of Rislandia

According to A History of Rislandia, Princess Kristina is recorded as a member of the Wyranth Imperial Army's command structure under the formal title Automaton Commander, overseeing the Automaton Corps of the Wyranth Imperial Army and all automaton units empire-wide. The sourcebook's use of "Automaton Commander" as her institutional title is distinct from the "Director of Automaton Production" title used in the novels; both designations are attributed to her, but the bible does not explain whether they are synonymous, parallel, or successive roles.

The sourcebook also confirms her management of the empire's automaton factories (plural), consistent with her established base of operations at Isle du Mystere, and describes her character in terms identical to the novels: efficient, practical, and loyal to her brother.

Giant's Blood Lineage

A notable addition not addressed in the novels: A History of Rislandia states that Kristina, as a member of the Wyranth Imperial Line, carries the Giant's Blood lineage. The sourcebook groups her explicitly with Ivan, the Iron Emperor under the heading of the Wyranth Imperial Line in this context. This places her within the broader historical narrative of the Age of Giants and the inherited traits associated with Giant's blood that the sourcebook traces through Wyranth's ruling dynasty.
