Klektiklab
Klektiklab was a city inhabited by near-humans, encountered by Baron Theodore von Monocle during his travels as recorded in The Blood of Giants. The settlement was described simply as "a city called Klektiklab."
Overview
Klektiklab was home to a population of near-humans whose exact nature and origins were not elaborated upon at the time of the Baron's visit. Unlike many dangerous peoples encountered during his expeditions, the inhabitants of Klektiklab did not attack immediately upon contact and demonstrated a willingness to engage in trade, making the city a notable exception among the hazardous locales of the wider world.
Description
The most prominent feature of Klektiklab was an amphitheater set into the ground, where the city's population gathered to watch combatants beat each other to death. The games held there drew the entire city's population into the amphitheater, suggesting the spectacle held deep cultural or social significance for the near-human inhabitants. The sunken design of the arena placed the fighting floor below street level, with spectators looking down upon the combatants.
Role in The Blood of Giants
In The Blood of Giants, Baron Theodore von Monocle encountered Klektiklab during his journey. The city's inhabitants did not immediately resort to hostility and were open to trade, allowing the Baron to interact with the settlement. The amphitheater and its lethal games were observed during this visit, providing a window into the customs of Klektiklab's near-human population.
On the world map
The official world map marks this city in the north-west of Zenwey, north of the Zenwey Desert label, spelled Klektiklub. The Blood of Giants (chapter 22) spells it Klektiklab. Which spelling is canon is a question for the author.
