In The Fight for Rislandia, Project Walking Monster was the name decoded from the top lines of a set of intercepted Wyranth coded papers. The project represented one of the Wyranth Empire's most significant and dangerous military-scientific undertakings, combining biological experimentation with strategic weapons development.

The project's name proved initially misleading. Major Edwin Ral believed the phrase might relate to Wyranth troop deployments, and Zaira von Monocle herself initially interpreted it as a reference to Wyranth armies marching north. In reality, the project had nothing to do with conventional troop movements. It referred instead to Wyranth scientists actively working on rendering giants mobile and weaponizing them for use in the ongoing conflict.

A further consequence of the research was that Wyranth scientists inadvertently discovered methods of morphing giants back toward their prior form during their work on the serum, suggesting the project had implications beyond simple military deployment.

The true nature of the program — the mobilization and weaponization of giants, and the incidental discovery of a means to revert giants toward their prior form — was revealed as understanding of the intercepted documents deepened.
