Pyrean Order
The Pyrean Order was one of the Seven Great Guilds of the Orethan Dominion, distinguished by its mastery of fire crystals and its dual role as a military and industrial institution. At its height the Order numbered approximately 40,000 fire-wielders and maintained its headquarters in the city of Solarias. Its members served the Dominion as warriors, smiths, and industrial workers, and the guild's foundries, weapons, armor, and military training programs were counted among the great achievements of the Orethan age.
Overview
The Pyrean Order bore the symbol of a red flame on a gold field. Its leader held the title of The Flame Keeper. As one of the crystal guilds, the Order's power derived from the channeling of fire crystals, and its industrial output made it a central pillar of the Dominion's economy and military capacity. According to A History of Rislandia, the Order clashed repeatedly with the Tideweavers over competing industrial and agricultural priorities, a rivalry that reflected broader tensions within the guild system.
History
The Long Decay and the Blood Magic Schism
During the period known as the Long Decay, the Pyrean Order quietly tolerated the practice of blood magic among its members despite an official ban on such practices. This accommodation eventually gave rise to an open rupture. According to A History of Rislandia, "the Pyrean Order fought a brief civil war" over what became known as the Blood Magic Schism, dividing the guild between those who embraced blood magic and a purist faction that rejected it entirely.
The Night of Shattered Crystals
The schism reached its violent conclusion during the Night of Shattered Crystals. The Order split: half of its members joined Emperor Nerovan the Mad, while the other half—the purist faction—fled into the desert as Solarias burned around them. Blood-magic-using Pyrean warriors participated in the Guild Purge that accompanied Nerovan's rise, turning on their former peers and the broader guild structure of the Dominion.
Survivors and the Exodus
The purist members who escaped Solarias were left a diminished remnant. According to A History of Rislandia, only "50 Pyrean warriors who could still wield weak fire magic" remained at the time of the were-rat purge expedition, in which these survivors participated. The Pyreans retained practical knowledge that outlasted their guild structure: A History of Rislandia notes that "Pyreans still knew how to forge steel" during the exodus period, and that the followers of Wyranth included Pyrean survivors, with approximately 3,000 of Wyranth's followers described as mostly soldiers and Pyrean survivors.

Legacy
The Pyrean Order's collapse exemplified the broader disintegration of the Orethan Dominion's guild system. Its industrial knowledge—particularly steel-forging—survived in the hands of scattered Pyrean refugees and shaped the peoples who followed in the post-Dominion era. The Order's internal conflict over blood magic foreshadowed the moral and political fractures that would define the fall of the old empire.
