Sergeant Wilheim

Sergeant Wilheim was a soldier of the Wyranth Empire assigned to guard duty at a sealed metal door located inside a secret passage. He appeared in For Steam and Country as a minor obstacle encountered by Baron Theodore von Monocle and his companions.

Overview

Wilheim held the rank of Sergeant within the Wyranth Military. He was described as being approximately the same size as Baron von Monocle, a detail that proved consequential when his uniform was later taken. Baron von Monocle noted of him, "He seemed like a nice man," and on that basis chose not to kill him.

Role in For Steam and Country

In For Steam and Country, Sergeant Wilheim was posted at a sealed metal door inside a secret passage when Baron von Monocle and his party approached. He appeared utterly confused when the Baron knocked. Baron von Monocle attempted to deceive him with a story invoking Ivan, the Iron Emperor, and Wilheim was briefly taken in by the ruse. However, he grew suspicious upon noticing that the Knights of the Crystal Spire among the group were fully armored while the other members of the party were dressed only in smallclothes, a discrepancy he questioned aloud.

Before Wilheim could act on his suspicions, he was pistol-whipped in the back of the head by Zaira von Monocle's father — Baron von Monocle — and caught before he could hit the ground. The knights then stripped him of his uniform, and he was subsequently stuffed into a crate. Because Baron von Monocle judged him to be a decent man, he was left alive rather than killed.
