Whispering Grove
Overview
The Whispering Grove was a sacred place located within the Old Forest, near the village of Mira. According to A History of Rislandia, it was described as "a place the villagers called the Whispering Grove—a sacred place where the Fae were said to dwell." The grove was regarded with reverence by the local population, who associated it with the presence of the Fae. Its exact location within the Old Forest remained unknown.
History
The Whispering Grove figures centrally in the legend of Mira and Tam. According to A History of Rislandia, Mira travelled to the grove to seek aid for her dying son, Tam. It was at this location that the Fae appeared to her and a bargain was struck. In a subsequent event recorded in the same source, Mira returned to the grove in an attempt to undo the arrangement: "She returned to the Whispering Grove and begged the Fae to undo the bargain."
The grove thus served as the setting for both the making and the attempted unmaking of Mira's compact with the Fae, marking it as a place of profound supernatural significance within the legendarium of Rislandia.
Description
The Whispering Grove was situated within the Old Forest in proximity to Mira's village. Beyond its association with the Fae and its reputation as a sacred site among local villagers, no detailed physical description of the grove has been preserved. A History of Rislandia notes that its exact location is unknown.
Legacy
The grove endured in cultural memory primarily through its role in the legend of Mira and Tam, one of the traditional tales recorded in A History of Rislandia. It stood as an example of the liminal spaces within the Old Forest where mortal and Fae worlds were believed to intersect, and its reputation as a sacred dwelling of the Fae reflected broader Rislandian folk traditions surrounding the supernatural inhabitants of ancient woodlands.
