Wyn
Wyn is the red-tinted region at the north-eastern tip of the Areth continent on the official world map. It is a long, narrow promontory pointing north toward Clockmaker's Isle, and an island to its east shares its colour. Zarma borders it to the south. The map shows no city dot on the Wyn mainland.
Sources
Known only from the official world map. The name does not appear in any of the novels or short stories processed so far. The History of Rislandia bible, which is processed next, may add more detail.
In A History of Rislandia
According to A History of Rislandia, Wyn is far more than a geographic label: it is a living culture with deep roots in the ancient peoples of Areth.
Names and Location
The sourcebook refers to the region by two earlier designations — "The Highland Herders" and "The Southwestern Highlands" — treating "Wyn" as a later name for the same territory. This presents a significant geographic discrepancy with the novel-based account on this page: the world map places Wyn at the north-eastern tip of Areth, whereas A History of Rislandia consistently describes it as occupying the southwestern highlands of the continent. Both versions are recorded here;
The bible describes the terrain as rolling hills, grasslands, and highland plateaus — open and windswept, with few forests — and gives the climate as temperate, with cold winters and mild summers. Population is recorded at approximately 10,000.
Origins and Divine Influence
According to A History of Rislandia, humans emerged in Wyn's rolling hills and grasslands under the influence of Aerithos's wind essence, which shaped the character of the people toward mobility, independence, and oral expression.
Society and Culture
The Wyn are a clan-based people governed by clan confederations rather than any centralised authority, which they fiercely resist. Their economy rests on herding — cattle, sheep, and goats — supplemented by limited agriculture. The clans follow their herds in a nomadic pattern, living in portable camps.
Wyn bards occupy a central cultural role, preserving history through epic poems and songs in lieu of written records. The sourcebook characterises the Wyn as herders, storytellers, wanderers, and warriors, with skilled horsemen and archers forming the martial backbone of the clans.
The Wyn claim descent from the Orethan Dominion, though the bible does not elaborate on the nature or strength of that claim.
Relations with Rislandia
According to A History of Rislandia, Wyn settlers founded Plainsroad Village in Rislandia, and some Rislandians carry Wyn ancestry. Wyn herders occasionally trade livestock with Rislandia, and the relationship is described as distant but friendly. The Wyn language or dialect is noted as one of the cultural influences on the speech of Loveridge, alongside Rislandian and Wyranth.
Despite these ties, the sourcebook notes that Wyn is too far away for regular contact with Rislandia, and that the Wyn clans were largely unaware of the Nightmen invasion. The region is described as continuing its traditional way of life unchanged for centuries.
