Corporal Tyson

Corporal Tyson was a soldier serving in the Grand Rislandian Army. He is known primarily for his actions during the urban combat operations described in The Fight For Rislandia and for his subsequent service at the Loveridge front as depicted in The Iron Wedding.

Overview

Tyson held the rank of Corporal within the Grand Rislandian Army. He was noted for a distinctive, awkward bird-like running gait. During the fighting in Rislandia City, he demonstrated practical battlefield initiative, tactical awareness, and the ability to operate under the command of senior officers. He later continued his service at the Loveridge front, where he interacted with Zaira von Monocle and her father during a sensitive logistical operation.

Role in The Fight for Rislandia

In The Fight For Rislandia, Corporal Tyson led his group to the secondary weapons storehouse, guiding them down a side alley toward the warehouse. At a corner along the route, he stopped the group and pressed against the closest wall to scout ahead, peering around the corner to assess the situation. He identified a force of Wyranth soldiers blocking the path, reporting that at least eight enemy troops stood between the group and the warehouse.

Upon encountering a captured Wyranth artillery piece, Tyson suggested turning it around on the enemy, remarking, "Nice weapon they left here. Why don't we turn it around on them?" Before the ensuing ambush, he readied his rifle and moved to take flanking positions against the Wyranth soldiers. During the engagement, he shot an injured Wyranth soldier as a precaution. When Rislandian soldiers approached afterward, Tyson identified himself aloud to avoid friendly fire.

Following the fighting, Tyson operated a steam-powered lift to assist in moving the bomb. He was subsequently ordered by Baron Theodore von Monocle to take half of Sergeant Lansing's men and regroup with the main line. Tyson then departed deeper into the city with his team.

Role in The Iron Wedding

In The Iron Wedding, Corporal Tyson was stationed at the Loveridge front. He assisted Zaira von Monocle and her father in securing a bomb from Rislandia City's industrial district. During this time, he was observed drinking from a canteen containing a pungent-smelling drink. When Zaira fainted, Tyson roused her using smelling salts. He addressed her as "Baronette" and made a remark implying she might have been more useful sent over the border earlier. He also expressed approval of the concept of sacrifice, stating, "I like what you're sayin' about sacrifice."

Characteristics

Tyson was described as running with awkward, bird-like steps. He showed sound tactical instincts, including the impulse to scout before advancing, the initiative to repurpose captured enemy equipment, and the discipline to announce his identity to prevent friendly-fire incidents. He carried a canteen and kept smelling salts on his person, and demonstrated a pragmatic, plainspoken manner in his interactions with both fellow soldiers and civilians.
