General Gregor

General Gregor was a Wyranth general who served in the military of the Wyranth Empire under Ivan, the Iron Emperor. He was a senior field commander with authority over automaton units and direct access to Ivan, functioning as one of the emperor's principal military advisors.

Description

Gregor was an older man with a shrewd-looking face and a sharply pointed chin. He wore a helmet that mirrored the shape of his pointed chin, and his uniform was adorned with medals, reflecting his long service and rank within the Wyranth military.

Role in The Iron Wedding

In The Iron Wedding, General Gregor was present at Carnait Cove during the imperial wedding. He reported directly to Ivan when an armed encampment of the Wyranth Underground Resistance appeared beyond the city walls overnight, informing him: "There is an armed encampment which popped up beyond the city walls overnight, and they are drawing closer."

When the Nightmen were spotted, Ivan summoned Gregor and ordered him to get guests to safety and ready the automatons for combat. Gregor was already present in the fortified tower when Zaira and Ivan arrived. He received orders to dispatch units one and four of the automaton brigade, and subsequently received updated orders to capture and disarm the enemy rather than kill them. He issued orders to Dr. Metzengerstein regarding the automatons and commanded automaton movements throughout the battle.

Following the engagement, Gregor was present at the inn. He acknowledged that Ivan could not have anticipated an attack of that scale and assessed the tactical situation at Carnait Cove, noting that "There's nowhere in Carnait Cove that isn't exposed." He also observed that there was no rope long enough to rappel down the tower. On the basis of these assessments, he advised Ivan and his bride to take a horseless carriage and return to the capital.
