Carnait Cove
Carnait Cove was a quaint coastal town located on the southwestern coast of the Wyranth Empire, past The Great Desert. Ivan, the Iron Emperor regarded it as "the most beautiful location in my entire empire—a well-kept secret," a distinction he shared with Zaira von Monocle. Unlike the major cities of the empire, Carnait Cove was a small, quiet settlement with dirt streets, no street lights, and skies clear enough that "the stars shone on Carnait Cove, without the street lights of a major city anywhere in sight."
Description
Carnait Cove was defined by its natural harbor, which featured long docks, a peninsula that held back ocean waves, and calm waters. Four naval vessels and several smaller ships were docked in the harbor during the events of The Iron Wedding. Along the shore ran a long wall of elegant light stone, with twin towers positioned at its ends to monitor the western and southern approaches. A fortified tower on one side of the town served as a military headquarters, while a watchtower also stood along the coast.
The town itself contained houses, an inn, a larger residence belonging to Ivan, and city walls with gates on the far side of the settlement. Its streets were unpaved dirt roads. A small park on the coast featured fresh-cut grass, rose bushes, and a small wooden awning near the water. The wedding grounds occupied a protrusion of land overlooking the ocean. General Gregor noted of the town's defensive limitations: "There's nowhere in Carnait Cove that isn't exposed."
Role in The Iron Wedding
Carnait Cove was selected as the location for the wedding of Ivan, the Iron Emperor and Zaira von Monocle. The town was administered during this period by local governor Baldwin. Ivan established a makeshift office at the inn, and Queen Reina I's retinue was also quartered there.
Overnight, an encampment of the Wyranth Underground Resistance appeared beyond the town's walls, precipitating a battle. During the fighting, Wyranth automatons retreated back into Carnait Cove, and buildings within the town were used as cover. Civilians evacuated through the gates on the far side of the settlement. The fortified tower served as a command headquarters during the engagement.
The wedding ceremony took place on the protrusion of land overlooking the ocean. During the battle, Zaira von Monocle employed the earth crystal, causing the wedding grounds to crumble into the sea. Following the battle, Zaira recovered at the inn for three days.

Governance
Carnait Cove was managed by a local governor named Baldwin during the period of the wedding. As part of the Wyranth Empire, it fell under imperial authority, with Ivan maintaining a personal residence in the town.
In A History of Rislandia
According to A History of Rislandia, Carnait Cove is a coastal town in the remote southwestern corner of the Wyranth Empire, described in the sourcebook as lying in "southwestern Rislandia" — a framing that situates it within a broader Rislandian historical perspective rather than purely as a Wyranth possession.
Geography and Access
According to A History of Rislandia, Carnait Cove lies beyond both the Red Desert and the Westerly Spine, making it accessible primarily by sea. The sourcebook does not use the name "The Great Desert" for the desert barrier separating the cove from the interior; it refers instead to the "Red Desert." The town is noted for its beautiful beaches and mild climate, consistent with Ivan, the Iron Emperor's description of it in the novels as the most beautiful location in his empire.
Population and Society
According to A History of Rislandia, Carnait Cove has a population of approximately 8,000. The sourcebook describes the town as more cosmopolitan than most Wyranth settlements owing to its role as a working port, with a population drawn from Wyranth natives, Tyndree descendants, traders, and refugees. It is noted for a reputation for tolerance and neutrality unusual among Wyranth towns.
Founding
According to A History of Rislandia, Carnait Cove was founded in Year 350 of the Rislandian calendar.
The Seaside Chapel
According to A History of Rislandia, the wedding between Zaira von Monocle and Ivan, the Iron Emperor was held at a structure called the Seaside Chapel, which overlooks the ocean. The sourcebook records that the chapel was partially destroyed during the Nightmen attack and is subsequently being reconstructed. The novel-based account on this page describes the wedding as taking place on "a protrusion of land overlooking the ocean" and a "small park on the coast" without naming any chapel; the sourcebook's identification of the Seaside Chapel as the specific wedding venue is additional detail not present in the novels as recorded on this page.
The Nightmen Attack and the Earth Crystal
According to A History of Rislandia, the Nightmen forces that attacked during the wedding ceremony numbered more than 150 soldiers. The sourcebook states that Zaira von Monocle and Ivan, the Iron Emperor used an earth crystal together to create an earthquake that sank the wedding grounds into the sea, killing the Nightmen attackers. The sourcebook explicitly quotes: "Zaira and Ivan used an earth crystal together to sink Carnait Cove."
Aftermath and Legacy
According to A History of Rislandia, the beach where the wedding was held has since been made into a memorial. The town is described as rebuilding from the Nightmen attack, with fortifications added in the aftermath. The sourcebook further records that Carnait Cove has become a symbol of the alliance between Rislandia and the Wyranth Empire following these events.
