Early Life
According to A History of Rislandia, Gregor grew up as the son of a woodcutter, living in a small cottage on the edge of the Old Forest with his sister Hanna. On one occasion, the two siblings ventured into the Old Forest and became lost. They took shelter with an old woman, but Gregor grew suspicious and peered through a crack in her door, discovering that she was a were-creature. Drawing on his father's advice that were-creatures hate fire, he woke Hanna, armed himself with a burning branch, and used it to drive off the creature, leading their escape. After this incident, Gregor never entered the Old Forest again.
The Voyage of the Windward
According to A History of Rislandia, the merchant ship Windward was sailing from Perryton to Panderica when a storm blew it off course. When the storm cleared, the crew found themselves near an unmapped island. Gregor recognized it immediately as a Fae island and ordered the crew to remain aboard the ship, stating: "That's a Fae island. We don't go ashore." Despite his orders, a crew member named Finn went ashore.
Gregor waited three days for Finn before ordering the Windward to depart without him.
Return Voyage
According to A History of Rislandia, Gregor returned to the same waters years later as an old man. He went ashore on the Fae island and found Finn still dancing with the Fae. Gregor informed Finn that ten years had passed, then dragged him back to the ship.
