King's Road
Overview
According to A History of Rislandia, the King's Road served as "the primary artery" of Rislandia's road network, functioning as the principal overland route linking Rislandia City to all major towns and cities throughout the kingdom. It was described as well-maintained and regularly patrolled, making it the most reliable and heavily used thoroughfare in the realm.
History
According to A History of Rislandia, the King's Road was commissioned by King Malaky I as part of a broader infrastructure initiative undertaken between Years 45 and 60 of the Rislandian calendar. This programme, referred to in the sourcebook as the Road Network, saw Rislandia City connected to outlying farms and villages across the kingdom. The King's Road stood at the centre of this effort as its defining feature.
The Road Network, and by extension the King's Road, was constructed using Stonemason techniques without the use of crystal magic. Way-stations for travellers were established along the network as part of the same commission.
Description
According to A History of Rislandia, the King's Road connected Rislandia City to all major towns and cities within the kingdom. It was kept in good repair and patrolled, distinguishing it from lesser roads in the network. Its construction relied on the craft of stonemasons rather than any magical means, reflecting the practical, non-crystal approach to infrastructure characteristic of the early Malaky Dynasty.
Legacy
The King's Road enabled trade and communication across Rislandia and formed the backbone of the kingdom's road network. As the primary artery of that network, it played a foundational role in the economic and administrative integration of the realm following the early reign of King Malaky I.
