Magistra Lyria of the Chronists

Magistra Lyria of the Chronists was the final surviving elder who retained living memory of the Orethan Dominion's crystal magic, and her death in Year 35 marked the end of the last direct link to that golden age. Before she died, she committed everything she remembered of history, technique, and philosophy to writing, preserving those works in the Great Library.

Magistra Lyria of the Chronists

Magistra Lyria of the Chronists, also known as The Last Elder, was a member of the Chronists and the final surviving elder who carried direct personal memory of the Orethan Dominion's crystal magic. Her death in Year 35 at the age of 89 was regarded as the closing of an irreplaceable chapter in Rislandian history.

Overview

According to A History of Rislandia, Lyria held the title of Magistra within the Chronists guild and was distinguished above all her contemporaries by the simple fact of her survival: she alone among the elders who had known the Orethan Dominion at its height lived long enough to witness the founding era of Rislandia. Her existence represented a living bridge between the old empire and the new kingdom, and her death severed that connection permanently.

History

The sourcebook preserved in A History of Rislandia record that Magistra Lyria spent her final years in deliberate and urgent labor, writing down everything she could recall of the Orethan Dominion's golden age — its history, its techniques of crystal magic, and its philosophy. These writings were preserved in the Great Library of Rislandia, ensuring that at least a recorded account of the old empire's knowledge would survive her.

According to A History of Rislandia, Lyria died in Year 35 at the age of 89, just as construction of the Crystal Spire began. The source records her death with the observation that with her passing went the last direct link to the Orethan Dominion's golden age.

Her last words were recorded and have been preserved for posterity:

"We carried civilization across the mountains. Now you must carry it forward."

Legacy

The writings Magistra Lyria produced in her final years became a foundational resource held within the Great Library of Rislandia. Without her effort to commit her memories to the page, knowledge of the Orethan Dominion's crystal magic and philosophy might have been lost entirely with her death. Her passing coincided with the beginning of construction on the Crystal Spire, a monument that in some respects embodied the very traditions she had worked to preserve.

Her last words, as recorded in A History of Rislandia, have been cited as an encapsulation of the spirit of the early Rislandian settlement — the sense of obligation to carry forward what the exodus generation had brought across the mountains.
