Treaty of Year 341
Overview
The Treaty of Year 341 was the diplomatic instrument that ended the First Wyranth War in Year 341. According to A History of Rislandia, the treaty was concluded on the principle of status quo ante bellum — a return to pre-war borders — leaving neither side with territorial gains or losses from the conflict. No reparations were levied against either party.
Terms
The treaty contained the following principal provisions, as recorded in A History of Rislandia:
- Status quo ante bellum. All borders were restored to their positions prior to the outbreak of the First Wyranth War. In the words of the source: "Status quo ante bellum (return to pre-war borders)."
- Expansion of the demilitarized zone at Pleasant Pass. The existing DMZ at Pleasant Pass was enlarged as part of the settlement, providing a broader buffer between Rislandia and the Wyranth Empire.
- Prisoner exchanges. Both sides agreed to return prisoners of war held during the conflict.
- No reparations. Neither party was required to pay financial or material compensation to the other.
Legacy
By restoring the pre-war territorial situation and expanding the buffer zone at Pleasant Pass, the Treaty of Year 341 established a framework intended to reduce the likelihood of immediate renewed hostilities. The absence of reparations and the symmetrical nature of the settlement reflected a negotiated compromise rather than a decisive victory for either Rislandia or the Wyranth Empire. The long-term durability of the peace, and the relationship between this treaty and subsequent conflicts such as the Fantasy War (Years 375-383), falls outside the scope of the treaty's own terms as recorded in A History of Rislandia.
